Third Sunday of Lent
This year the All Saints Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults has been blessed with seven adults who have answered God’s call to embrace life in the Catholic Church community. Rachael Barfield, Doug Payer and Jordan Steinberg are our elect who are seeking Baptism. Tammy Buehrle, Joy McKay, David Pisarkiewicz and Tonye Evers are our candidates who have already been baptized.
Today at the 10:30 Mass, the first of three scrutinies for Rachael, Doug and Jordan (our elect) will be celebrated. These rites are communal prayers to strengthen them, to overcome the power of sin and to grow in virtue.
We pray that whatever is weak may be strengthened, whatever is broken be restored and whatever is lost be found. Because all of us are called to continuing conversion, we and the candidates join the elect in scrutinizing our own lives and pray that we are strengthened through Christ, our Living Water, to overcome the power of sin.
Today the Elect and Candidates will be presented with a copy of the Nicene Creed. Their dismissal will not be before the Creed but they will remain to hear the congregation proclaim to them what we as Catholics believe.
As we move through Lent, we will continue to reach out to support one another through prayer and respect just as Jesus reached out to the Samaritan woman and as He continues to reach out to all of us.
