Mr. Robert Schaberg - 6th Grade

News and Announcements

Have a Great Summer!

Dear Boys and Girls and Parents,

Thank you for your good work this year.  I know 6th grade was somewhat challenging for you.  I hope you have a great summer.  Please do some enjoyable reading and learning, and think about what you can do that will help you for next year.  In science next year we will study biology and especially  the parts of the cell and how cells work; we will also study about human biology and all our organ systems (we hope to do the pig heart dissection at the AIMS workshop at St. Louis U); we will then study about DNA and heredity, and then about how living things are classified and the six kingdoms of living things.  We will then study about the animal kingdom and finally we will study plants.  I encourage you to learn about some things that really interest you on your own.  Our goal is to empower you to learn well on your own.  Please take good care of your parents and remember to offer your day to God, to go to Mass, and to thank God for all your blessings.

Human Sexuality Education

Dear Parents,

Today (April 19th) we are sending home an envelope on the RCL Benziger Family Life Program that has been adopted by the Archdiocese.  There is an explanatory letter from me and a program letter from Benziger.  There is also a parent booklet and a human reproduction booklet.  The Archdiocese asks that the parents be the primary educators of their children in regard to human sexuality.  We have a separate booklet that we will discuss in class that is more about genetics and respect than the booklets we sent home.  We hope the booklets we sent home will give you the opportunity to discuss human sexuality with your child.  When you have accomplished this, please send the booklets back to school.  We will need them for future years.

Thank you.

Family Trees (Probably in May)

Dear Students and Parents,

I would like the Boys and Girls to do a family tree that will count for a grade in both religion and social studies.  It will help them understand their family history, our nation's history, and world history better and it also relates to the family tree of Jesus that we learn about in the Old Testament.  It will not be due until after Easter, but I thought it might be good to know about it in advance.  Family trees should include a diagram of student's ancestors just going back whatever distance you can, at least six interesting facts about their family history, and an oral report of an interview with a grandparent or other older adult about what it was like say in world War II or during the Cold War or during Vietnam, etc.  I believe students will find history more interesting when they see that it relates to their family's history.  The family tree will count for one test grade in religion and for one test grade in social studies.

Fund Raising for Camp and Eighth Grade Field Trips

Dear Parents,

If your child raises more money for Camp than he or she needs, the extra money can be used for 8th grade field trips.  This could help out a lot because the 8th graders go to Hannibal and do other field trips which are fairly expensive.

Mr. Robert Schaberg - 6th Grade

I have a sixth grade homeroom, and I teach sixth, seventh and eighth grade Science. I am a Peer Mediation Moderator as well as a Safety Patrol Moderator. I also teach the Old Testament and Social Studies.

I have taught at All Saints School for over 30 years. I appreciate the welcoming spirit and good work of the teachers, students, principal and staff, priests, and parents/guardians at All Saints.

I graduated from Duchesne High School, and went to Rockhurst College for one year. I received an A.B. Degree from St. Louis University, and a Ph.D. in history from St. Louis University, where I wrote a doctoral dissertation on Joseph Priestley, (the discoverer of oxygen). I have also taken courses at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and the St. Charles Community College.

I enjoy learning and I have always tried to keep learning. My view of teaching is that the students and I are fellow learners in the great enterprise of learning, and that we learn from each other. I also try to help students learn good study skills so they are able to learn well on their own. School is the place to learn how to learn.
I enjoy reading, and I like to read about history, science, and other subjects. I have also been a runner for over 27 years.
